Vaccinations: Protecting Your Pet from Day One
At My Vet Animal Hospital, we believe that prevention is the best medicine—especially when it comes to your pet’s health. Vaccinations are one of the most effective ways to keep your dog or cat protected from serious, and sometimes life-threatening, diseases.
Just like kids, puppies and kittens need a little extra help early on. Their immune systems are still developing, which makes timely vaccinations essential to staying healthy and safe.
Why Vaccinate?
Vaccines protect your pet against dangerous diseases, some of which can spread to other animals—or even to people. While no medical treatment is completely risk-free, vaccine reactions are very rare and typically mild. The benefits of vaccination far outweigh any potential side effects.
Core Vaccines
Core vaccines are those recommended for all pets and are often required by law. These help prevent the most common and contagious illnesses.
- Dogs:
- Rabies
- Distemper
- Parvovirus
- Leptospirosis
- Lyme disease
- Bordetella (kennel cough)
- Cats:
- Rabies
- FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia)
Recommended (Non-Core) Vaccines
Depending on your pet’s lifestyle, we may also recommend:
- Dogs:
- Canine Influenza
- Additional Bordetella boosters for frequent boarders or park-goers
- Cats:
- FeLV (Feline Leukemia)
- FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)
Even if your pet lives indoors, they can still be at risk. A cracked window, a vet visit, or a curious moment near the door can lead to unexpected exposure—vaccinations offer peace of mind.
